Plans Underway

// October 30th, 2005 // No Comments » // Life

We’re all moved into our rent house and closed on the sale of our old house last week. Other than a misunderstanding about which draperies we were taking and which we were leaving all went very smoothly.

We got our first set of initial drawings from our architect last week. By and large, we were impressed with what he came up with. It ended up being too wide for our lot so he’s going to rework some parts of it, along with some suggestions and refinements we asked for. We hope to get the revised drawings this next week sometime.

We’re Moving!

We're movingWe’ll be moving this weekend into a house we’ll be renting until our house is built. It’s just a couple miles from where we live now.

We got most everything packed up this past weekend. It’s wierd to see the sum total of your personal belongings stacked neatly in a few rows of boxes. Seems to somehow minimalize all you think you have.

After a few days of delays (probably the first of many), we’re hoping to get preliminary drawings on our new house today. We’ll work with our builder and the architect to make any changes we need until it’s what we want, then the architect will start on the construction plans.

Our builder told us of the headache they just went through in getting a frame inspection done on a house. They went through five inspectors, each of whom gave them a different list of things that needed to be changed, before they got a final sign-off. They’re telling us to allow a month to get the frame inspection done on our house, which means virtually idle construction time during that phase. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

We’re scheduled to close on the sale of our current home on October 28th.

Making Progress

We made through the option period on the sale of our home and will be proceeding to close at the end of the month.

We got some loose ends tied up yesterday on this whole home selling/leasing/buying cycle. Got the final financing approval for the construction loan, so we can proceed with signing the lease on the house we’ll be in until the house we’re building is completed.

We’re starting to pack things up as we’ll be moving out of this place in two weeks. This place holds a lot of memories for us. Even though we’re leaving for something better we’ll still leave a bit of our hearts here. It was our first house, the house we brought our babies home to, the only house they’ve ever known. Leaving will be very bittersweet.

We met with another architect yesterday who has built homes of a similar size and style (and even some in the same neighborhood) as what we’re wanting, so we’ve decided to use him to design our house. He says he has about a 4-5 week turnaround time so hopefully in another month or so we’ll know what our house will look like!

We’re excited. Putting the construction loan financing to rest and getting the lease agreement going has settled two big issues among the many we’re juggling, which gives us some peace.
