July Will Be A Blur

// July 9th, 2010 // No Comments » // Life

Coming back from vacation always has a price. Mine will be a July spent buried under a mountain of things going on at work. No point enumerating. Would take too long. Nothing insurmountable, just a big to-do list.

The trip already seems like ages ago, and it’s only been 12 days since we got back.

Little victories. I just bought the first 3 seasons of Mad Men on sale in iTunes for $10/season. WooHoo!

Been eating better and walking a lot. Can already see results. It’s motivating. Today was a blowout day. First day since I’ve been doing better. But tomorrow back to putting less and better things into my body. I feel better, every day.

Got filmed by a Food Network crew while eating lunch with a client today. May be on TV in September. That’d be cool.

May The York Be With You

Had dinner at our favorite Chicken Nugget place last night for a school-night (where a portion of the proceeds go back to our kids’ school). I won’t name names but let’s just say they aren’t open on Sundays.

Something got us and at least a dozen other people we know. We’re thinking the fries. Seems to be the common thread. Those who avoided the fries seem to have been spared. For the rest, it’s been 24 hours of toilet-hugging and Pepto.

Joe has taken the worst of it. Poor little guy.

I’m on about 3 hours of sleep. Here’s to hoping tonight is better for everyone. :)

Brown, Beefy Things

// February 17th, 2010 // No Comments » // Life

Doc says my protein intake is too high. I replaced green leafy things in my diet with brown, beefy things a loooooong time ago and haven’t looked back. Breakfast anyone? Mmmmmmm. Teriyaki chicken…

Can You Spot Me 2 Cents

Can You Spot Me 2 CentsBecause clearly the people at some restaurants cannot.

Went to get some of my favorite sweet-bread-encapsulated-chicken-nugget provider for breakfast. The total $3.02. Change $1.98. Seriously! Can’t spot me $0.02 Mrs. Manager? Then the nerve to say “God Bless You” as I’m driving off. Fortunately God is more merciful than she felt this morning.

But the capper was lunch. Now in possession of $7 and 98 cents in cash, I head to my favorite pizza buffet for lunch. The cost. $7.99. Will they take my $7.98 and risk losing that 1 CENT in profit. OF COURSE NOT! OH COME ON, SERIOUSLY!

I know times are tough but have you heard of pay it forward?

So I debit-carded my $7.99 lunch and am still in possession of my $7.98 in cash, which I’ll happily spend somewhere else.

Why Tomorrow Will Be Better Than Today

cfaBecause my wife once again proved her deep affection for me by bequeathing a coupon for a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich. The simple act of completing their fairly short survey by telephone is worth approximately $2.76 of savings. The minor inconvenience of answering their survey only pales in comparison to the 40-odd question phone survey I had to take to earn my free Route 44 drink from Sonic, which, when combined with my Chick-Fil-A coupon, will produce a completely free lunch tomorrow.

As a family, we enjoy a collective addiction to “Chick-if-A” or “Filet Box” – as our kids called it when they were younger – that rivals only my personal dependence on Chipotle burritos. My Chipotle obsession has progressed to the point where I quantify other purchases in terms of the number of burritos it would buy and then must contemplate whether the exchange should proceed.

So, despite the fact that I ate a long-awaited burrito today, tomorrow should indeed be better because I actually had to pay for the burrito.

WooHoo!
