US Team Cleans Up At CAT

USA Shooting LogoJust weeks prior to the Championships of the Americas (CAT), the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) amended the Olympic quota slots available at the event from zero to 13. USA Shooting had intended to send a team of mostly junior shooters, taking advantage of the opportunity to let our development team gain some international experience without risking the loss of quota slots.

In light of the quota change, USA Shooting added one US Team member to the travel team for each event for which a quota slot was available. This proved pivotal as the US Team walked away with 9 of the 11 quota slots available (they had already earned some at prior competitions).

Congratulations to everyone on their performances and go USA!

Despite what I say above, and what USA Shooting said they were going to do, it appears in fact the Team sent to CAT (for pistol anyway) was primarily regular US Team members. I noted only a single development team member in the results. I presume this was due to budgetary constraints but contradicts what USA Shooting said in a press release just days prior to the competition. Too bad for all the other folks who were told they were going to go, most of whom would have enjoyed their first taste of international competition experience.
